Background: A well-established processor of Industrial waste located in Orange County NY had determined that a
significant portion of the material it processed was bio-mass and that it wanted to develop an alternative to providing this clean waste
material to landfills. As a result, the company wanted to develop an alternative which utilized the bio-mass in an environmentally friendly
manner.
Solution: The management of the company had identified a technology for developed by the DOE in the late
1970's for the gasification of bio-mass in a process that utilized high levels of heat without actually burning the material. It was believed
that the resulting gas would then be able to be used in a gas turbine to produce electricity. Funding needed to be raised to finance a
commercial level prototype and to build the initial plants. The application of the process was very broad in as much as it could be used
in a number of different settings to effectively dispose of unwanted waste without adding to pollution.
Result: To assist management, a business plan was developed which could be utilized to explain the concept to
potential investors and government organizations interested in the technology. The company is currently looking for sources of funding to
implement its project.
